The difficult times are not only affecting your mental health but also your physical fitness too. Inactivity coupled with more television time now will hit hard your body posture. The posture is the position we hold while standing, sitting, or lying. Good body posture is the correct alignment of body parts supported by the correct amount of muscle tension against gravity. Without the right posture and muscle control, we are more prone to physical discomforts, injuries, and cervical like conditions. Do you know that the lower back portion carries most of your body weight, so proper alignment of the backbone can prevent injury on your vertebrae and discs? These and more which are not mentioned here can easily be prevented with reminders and conscious efforts. The most important thing is to use the right posture and keep your backbone straight. Here are a few points which you can implement during this time.
Don’t use you phone while sitting or lying on bed or standing on the floor. The best way to use the phone is while sitting on table and chair. Reduce your overall cell phone usage. Another advice from my side is to use whatsapp, facebook, Instagram etc. on your laptop while sitting on table and chair.
Reduce your overall television watching time for not more than 2 hours a day. If you have habit of watching more than 2 hours, break it down in smaller durations.
Go barefoot as much as you can to allow your toes to spread. This will help you move naturally and regain the strength of balancing muscles.
Move around after every 1 hour of whatever position you were in. The best way is to engage yourself in different kinds of activities. Consider doing small or big house chores.
Engage yourself in some physical activity both in the morning and evening. You can break total duration of your physical activity in 2 halves for example body warmup, bodyweight exercises + stretching in the morning and walk and stretching in the evening. Try becoming active for most of the time in a day.
Clubbing these suggestions in your daily routine will help you a long way even after COVID -19 situation.
